UV, Solar & Heat Management Coatings
Coated solutions designed to manage UV & IR content along with visible light spectrum from broadband lighting, solar sources & lasers. Solutions to enhance or block throughput, filter for select UV, provide solar suppression & manage heat and IR.
Blacklite UV Transmitting Coatings
UV Blocking Glass acts as a mirror with regard to ultraviolet light wavelengths (400nm and shorter). UV rays are one of the most significant sources of degradation in museum artwork. As such it is a problem that has prompted much consideration. Since artwork is intended to be seen, it is important that any solution to this problem not obscure visible light (400 – 700nm) wavelengths significantly while blocking or reflecting UV light. Adding an Anti-Reflection coating allows greater clarity in the visible light spectrum by helping to alleviate any inherent reflection in the glass.
Cold Mirrors
Abrisa Technologies provides a line of cold mirrors that reflect Ultra-Violet (UV) or visible energy while transmitting the infrared (heat energy). Cold mirror coatings are vacuum deposited multi-layer dielectric films that can operate in temperatures of ≥400°C and are durable and easy-to-clean. The glass substrate used for our cold mirrors is SCHOTT Borofloat®, a versatile borosilicate glass substrate with excellent thermal properties. Thickness availability is 1.1mm, and 3.3mm. Cold mirror sizes are available up to 27” diameter. Custom sizes and thicknesses and specialty designs are available upon request.
Hot Mirrors
Abrisa Technologies can supply hot mirrors or shortwave pass filters (SWP) for heat control applications. For hot mirrors, a thin film coating is applied to a glass substrate, such as soda-lime or borosilicate, in order to reflect infrared radiation either as a means to harness the reflected wavelengths for an application or remove them from an application. Simplified, a hot mirror will separate visible light from heat. Hot mirrors are typically provided on a cut to order basis in thicknesses of 1.1 mm, and 3.3mm and in diameters up to 27”. Custom sizes and thicknesses and specialty designs are available upon request.
UV & IR Blocking Coatings
Low Emissivity (Low-E) glass provides excellent performance in situations where temperature separation is desired. Low-E is used to help meet energy efficiency requirements by blocking UV light and providing heat insulation. This is done with a special thin-film metallic or oxide coating which prevents the passage of short-wave solar energy and also prevents long-wave energy produced by heating systems and lighting from escaping.
