Temperature Management Coatings

Cold & Hot Mirrors assist with redirecting infrared (heat) & light where best utilized or removed. ITO coated Total Solutions are electrically activated so as to heat surfaces for anti-fogging, de-icing & maintaining temperature while imaging.

Anti-Fog Coatings

Transparent conductive coatings are often used in electro-magnetic shielding, electrical heating, and cutting-edge display applications. ZC&R uses the coating material indium tin oxide (ITO) which provides for high durable coatings. Often, ITO coatings are used in contact with materials other than air. ZC&R often designs and produces ITO coatings designed specifically to be used next to materials such as liquid crystal, cements, index oils, and various other materials. ITO coatings that have been under-coated or over-coated to be index matched to a particular material such as liquid crystal can have very low reflectances. One determining factor as to how low a reflectance can be achieved is the sheet resistivity specification. Thicker ITO layers yield lower sheet resistivities but generally result in higher reflectances. Sheet resistivities as low as 5 to 10 ohms/sq and as high as a few thousand ohms/sq can be achieved. One common thickness of ITO, 100 angstroms, yields approximately 450 ohms/sq. ZC&R has a great deal of experience coating ITO and index-matched ITO and we would be happy to review any specification requirements you may have, and work with you to determine what can be achieved using ITO coatings for your particular application.

Cold Mirrors

Abrisa Technologies provides a line of cold mirrors that reflect Ultra-Violet (UV) or visible energy while transmitting the infrared (heat energy). Cold mirror coatings are vacuum deposited multi-layer dielectric films that can operate in temperatures of ≥400°C and are durable and easy-to-clean. The glass substrate used for our cold mirrors is SCHOTT Borofloat®, a versatile borosilicate glass substrate with excellent thermal properties. Thickness availability is 1.1mm, and 3.3mm. Cold mirror sizes are available up to 27” diameter. Custom sizes and thicknesses and specialty designs are available upon request.

Hot Mirrors

Abrisa Technologies can supply hot mirrors or shortwave pass filters (SWP) for heat control applications. For hot mirrors, a thin film coating is applied to a glass substrate, such as soda-lime or borosilicate, in order to reflect infrared radiation either as a means to harness the reflected wavelengths for an application or remove them from an application. Simplified, a hot mirror will separate visible light from heat. Hot mirrors are typically provided on a cut to order basis in thicknesses of 1.1 mm, and 3.3mm and in diameters up to 27”. Custom sizes and thicknesses and specialty designs are available upon request.

Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) Heater Coatings

Abrisa Technologies’ Transparent Conductive Heaters incorporate coatings of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), Index-Matched Indium Tin Oxide (IMITO) or Indium Molyb-denum Oxide (IMO) and are ideal window and display glass solutions when anti-fogging or de-icing, and high throughput and clarity are needed to maintain unobscured viewing and optical sensing in cold climates. The coatings deliver the high uniformity and low scatter performance needed to preserve high resolution digital imaging, sensing or display outputs while maintaining high throughput efficiency and clari-ty. Our solutions incorporate key heating attributes that can be tailored for specific needs, including design considerations for anti-reflective properties for visible, NIR, SWIR, and IR, optimization to air or index matched for bonding, and delivery of color neutral performance in transmission, reflection, or both.
